Definition

## What is AI search optimization (GEO)?

AI search optimization, or GEO (generative engine optimization), is the work of getting a business mentioned and linked in answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google’s AI Overviews. It combines content written so it can be quoted, consistent business data in the sources those tools read, and monthly measurement of what they actually say.

Research: [Aggarwal et al., GEO: Generative Engine Optimization (KDD 2024)](https://arxiv.org/abs/2311.09735) found that adding statistics and source citations raised visibility in AI answers by roughly 30–40%.

Where AI looks

## Where do ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Siri get local business information?

Each AI tool reads different sources. Google’s AI Mode takes most local citations from Google Maps data. ChatGPT search uses Bing’s index and licensed Yelp data. Siri relies on Apple Maps and Yelp reviews. So a business needs matching information in all of those places, not only a good website, to be named consistently.

| Where people ask | Where it gets local businesses | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Google AI Mode / “near me” | Mostly Google Maps data (about 8 in 10 local citations) | Complete, accurate Google Business Profile |
| Google AI Overviews | Google’s index and the page itself | Answer-first pages, tables, structured data |
| ChatGPT search | Bing’s index plus licensed Yelp data | Bing Webmaster, Bing Places, a claimed Yelp listing |
| Copilot | Bing and Bing Places | Same as ChatGPT |
| Siri / Apple Maps | Apple Business Connect and Yelp reviews | Apple Business Connect listing |
| Perplexity, Claude, Gemini | Their own web search plus Google and Bing | A citable site and mentions on other sites |

Every month

## What does the AI search service include?

The AI search service starts with a baseline of what AI assistants say about your category and city today. Then we rewrite key pages so they answer first, align your business data across Google, Bing, Apple, Yelp and directories, open your site to AI crawlers, add an agent layer, and re-run the same questions every month.

| Part | What we do |
|---|---|
| Baseline | We ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google the questions your buyers ask, and save the answers and cited sources |
| Content | Pages that answer in the first lines, comparison tables and prices, written in a neutral tone AI tools prefer |
| Identity | One consistent name, address, phone and description on your site, Google, Bing, Apple, Yelp and directories |
| Access | AI crawlers allowed in robots.txt, a markdown version of each page, llms.txt |
| Agent layer | An MCP server and agent endpoints so AI assistants can query your services directly |
| Tracking | The same questions every month, plus Search Console’s AI report and Bing’s AI Performance report |

Measurement

## How do you measure visibility in AI answers?

We measure AI visibility three ways: the same saved questions asked to ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity every month; Google Search Console’s report on impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode; and Bing Webmaster Tools’ AI Performance report, which counts citations in Copilot. For Luvory those reports showed the numbers below.

| Measure (Luvory, about 90 days to Sep 2026) | Result |
|---|---|
| Impressions in Google’s AI features | 3,260 |
| Citations in Bing AI answers | 116 |
| Monthly clicks from Google, April vs. September | 50 → 235 |

FAQ

## Questions about AI search

What owners ask about getting named by ChatGPT and other assistants: whether it can be guaranteed, whether an llms.txt file is enough, whether SEO is still needed and whether we track answers in Spanish. Honest answers, including the limits.

**Can you guarantee my business will appear in ChatGPT?**

No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. BrightLocal found only 20% to 33% of results match between two identical AI searches. We guarantee the work and the measurement, and the 90-day quote-request guarantee still applies.

**Does an llms.txt file get me into AI answers?**

Not on its own. Google has said it does not use llms.txt, and bot logs show few requests for it. We add it because it is cheap and helps some assistants, but the content, listings and reviews are what move citations.

**Do I need SEO too?**

Usually yes. AI assistants lean on the same signals search engines use, and Google says its AI features rely on standard SEO. Most businesses get the best return from SEO first and AI search on top.

**Do you track AI answers in Spanish?**

Yes. If your customers ask in Spanish, we run the baseline and the monthly questions in both languages, because the answers and the cited sources are often different.
