What is AI search optimization (GEO)?
AI search optimization, or GEO (generative engine optimization), is the work of getting a business mentioned and linked in answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google’s AI Overviews. It combines content written so it can be quoted, consistent business data in the sources those tools read, and monthly measurement of what they actually say.
Research: Aggarwal et al., GEO: Generative Engine Optimization (KDD 2024) found that adding statistics and source citations raised visibility in AI answers by roughly 30–40%.
Where AI looks
Where do ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Siri get local business information?
Each AI tool reads different sources. Google’s AI Mode takes most local citations from Google Maps data. ChatGPT search uses Bing’s index and licensed Yelp data. Siri relies on Apple Maps and Yelp reviews. So a business needs matching information in all of those places, not only a good website, to be named consistently.

How do you measure visibility in AI answers?
We measure AI visibility three ways: the same saved questions asked to ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity every month; Google Search Console’s report on impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode; and Bing Webmaster Tools’ AI Performance report, which counts citations in Copilot. For Luvory those reports showed the numbers below.

Can you guarantee my business will appear in ChatGPT?
No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. BrightLocal found only 20% to 33% of results match between two identical AI searches. We guarantee the work and the measurement, and the 90-day quote-request guarantee still applies.
Does an llms.txt file get me into AI answers?
Not on its own. Google has said it does not use llms.txt, and bot logs show few requests for it. We add it because it is cheap and helps some assistants, but the content, listings and reviews are what move citations.
Do I need SEO too?
Usually yes. AI assistants lean on the same signals search engines use, and Google says its AI features rely on standard SEO. Most businesses get the best return from SEO first and AI search on top.
Do you track AI answers in Spanish?
