What should happen in the first 90 days of SEO?
In the first 90 days, a good SEO plan sets up tracking, fixes what stops Google from reading the site, completes the Business Profile, and rewrites or adds the pages that match buyer searches. Technical and profile changes usually show in four to eight weeks; content and reviews keep building after. By day 90 you should see more impressions, better positions and more quote requests.
| Weeks | Work | What you should see |
|---|---|---|
| 1–4 | Tracking baseline, technical fixes, Business Profile completed, Search Console and Bing verified | A written list of changes; baseline numbers |
| 4–8 | Buyer-search pages, review system, Bing/Apple/Yelp listings | First ranking moves; more Maps actions |
| 8–12 | Measure against baseline, double down on what grows, first AI visibility check | Quote requests by source vs. baseline |
What happens in month one?
Month one is setup and repairs. Tracking for forms, calls and texts goes live so there’s a baseline; Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools are verified; indexing, speed and structured data problems are fixed; and the Business Profile gets the right categories, services, photos and posts. You should receive a written list of everything changed.
What happens in month two?
Month two is pages and proof. New or rewritten pages target the searches buyers use, each opening with a direct answer and including prices “from” and real photos; a review request system starts running; and listings on Bing Places, Apple Business Connect and Yelp are claimed and matched. First ranking moves on specific searches usually appear now.
What happens in month three?
Month three is measuring and doubling down. You compare quote requests against the baseline, see which pages and searches brought them, and put more work into what’s growing. This is also when AI visibility gets its first monthly check: which assistants name you, and which sources they cite instead.
What should you be able to see by day 90?
By day 90 you should see a written report with quote requests by source compared with the 30 days before work started, Google impressions and clicks from Search Console, Maps actions such as calls and direction requests, and a list of the next 90 days of work. If all you get is a list of keyword positions, ask for the rest.
What does the first 90 days of SEO look like week by week?
Week by week, the first 90 days run in four steps: weeks 1 and 2 give access and a baseline, weeks 3 to 6 fix the pages that almost work, weeks 7 to 10 add new pages and local listings, and weeks 11 to 13 review the numbers and plan the next quarter. Here is each step in plain terms.
- Weeks 1 and 2, access and baseline. You hand over access to the website, Google Business Profile and analytics. The team records how many quote requests, calls and Maps actions you get today, so later numbers have something to be compared with.
- Weeks 3 to 6, fix what almost works. Pages that already get impressions but few clicks are improved first: clearer titles, a direct answer at the top, prices “from”, real photos and a visible call or quote button. Pages Google can’t index are repaired.
- Weeks 7 to 10, add and match. New pages go up for searches that buyers use and you don’t cover yet. Business name, address and phone are made identical on every listing, and the review request system starts running.
- Weeks 11 to 13, review and plan. The report compares quote requests against the baseline, names the pages and searches that moved, and lists the next 90 days of work.
How long does it take for SEO changes to show up in Google?
Google itself says that some changes take effect in a few hours while others can take several months, and it advises waiting a few weeks before judging whether your work helped. That is why a 90-day plan is judged on early signals, such as impressions and indexed pages, rather than on a number-one position.

In practice this means three kinds of change. Fixes to indexing and speed can be picked up within days. New and rewritten pages usually need weeks before they settle into a position. Reviews, listings and links build slowly and keep paying after day 90.
Is a slow start normal, or is something wrong?
A slow start is normal if the work is visible and the early signals are moving: pages are being indexed, impressions are rising and you receive a written list of changes. Something is wrong if month two has no new pages, no report, no access to your own accounts, or if the only proof offered is a promise of a top position.
Use this short check at day 45 and again at day 90:
- Normal: impressions in Search Console are flat or rising, new pages show as indexed, and you can read what changed and why.
- Normal: clicks are still small. Impressions come before clicks, and clicks come before quote requests.
- Warning: you can’t log in to the Search Console, analytics or Business Profile accounts yourself.
- Warning: reports show activity (hours, audits, “tasks done”) but no quote requests, calls or Maps actions.
- Warning: the plan changes direction every few weeks, or pages are rewritten again and again before Google has had time to react.
What does the business owner need to do during the first 90 days?
You need to do four things: give access to your accounts in week one, answer questions about your services and prices within a few days, supply real photos and details only you know, and ask happy customers for reviews. SEO runs faster when the owner is quick to respond, because most delays come from waiting on access or answers.
- Access: website, Google Business Profile, analytics and Search Console, with accounts left in your name.
- Facts: your real services, the areas you serve, what jobs cost “from”, and what makes you different.
- Proof: photos of your own work and customers willing to leave an honest review. Never buy or invent reviews.
- Follow-up: answer every quote request quickly. Better SEO sends you more requests, but only the ones you answer become jobs.
How does Dizayn’s 90-day guarantee work?
On the Complete plan, $450 a month with SEO and AI search included and no minimum, Dizayn counts quote requests (forms, calls and WhatsApp or text taps tracked on your site) in the 30 days before work starts. If requests haven’t risen by day 90, month four is free and the work continues. It requires analytics access from day one and a site we built or are allowed to edit.
Frequently asked questions about the first 90 days of SEO
These are the questions owners ask most often about the first three months. The short version: expect setup in month one, first movement in month two, and a measured comparison in month three. Nobody can honestly promise a position on Google, and no plan should ask you to wait six months before showing any evidence.
Can SEO bring in leads within 90 days?
Sometimes, especially for local businesses with an unfinished Google Business Profile or pages Google can’t read. Treat the first 90 days as the period that proves the work is going in the right direction, and compare quote requests to your baseline instead of expecting a fixed number.
Should I write lots of new content in the first 90 days?
No. Fix the pages you have first, then add pages for the searches that bring buyers. A few pages that each answer one question well beat many thin posts. If a post is similar to one you already have, improve the old one instead.
What should my 90-day report include?
Quote requests by source against the 30-day baseline, impressions and clicks from Search Console, Maps actions such as calls and direction requests, a list of what changed, and the plan for the next 90 days. Keyword positions alone are not enough.
How much does a 90-day SEO plan cost?
Costs vary by provider. Read our breakdown of what SEO costs a small business, and compare options in agency, freelancer or do it yourself.
