Can you create a Google Business Profile with no physical address?
Not exactly. Google still needs an address it can find to create and verify the profile. What you can do is hide that address from the public if you are a service-area business. The profile then shows only the area you serve, not your street address.
Treat it as two steps: create the profile with a real address, then hide that address.

Who can hide their address on Google?
Only service-area businesses. Google says to choose not to show your address only if you serve customers at their location, such as plumbers, electricians, locksmiths and house cleaners. If customers visit you at that address, keep it visible. Hybrid businesses, with a public storefront and visits to customers, should leave the address showing.
| Business type | Address on the profile | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Goes to customers (plumber, electrician, locksmith, house cleaner) | Hide it and show a service area | Google allows hiding only for service-area businesses |
| Storefront or office with public hours that also visits customers (hybrid) | Keep it visible | Customers can visit the address |
| Customers come to you (salon, clinic, shop) | Keep it visible | Google says hiding is not for businesses that serve customers at the address |
| Online only | Unclear | Google’s page we reviewed does not cover it; one third-party guide says it may not qualify |

How do you create the profile and hide the address?
Create the profile with a real address Google can find, then hide it. Open your profile, choose Edit profile, then Location. Next to Business location, select Edit, turn off Show business address to customers, and Save. Google then displays only your service area.
- Start a new profile with your business name and category.
- Enter an address Google can find. If it does not, fix the parts marked in red. If it still fails, use Adjust to place a pin on the map.
- Add the cities or areas you serve.
- Complete verification with the steps Google shows you.
- Go to Edit profile, then Location. Next to Business location, select Edit, turn off Show business address to customers, and Save.
Changes usually show in about 10 minutes, but they can take up to 30 days.

How do you set your service area?
List the places you actually work. If you do not enter a service area, Google picks a local zone on its own, and you can edit it later. Start with the cities and neighborhoods you serve most, then back each one up with real pages on your website.
Be precise instead of listing everything nearby. A short, honest list is easier for customers to trust and easier for you to measure.

What should you avoid with a hidden address?
Do not invent a location. Skip PO boxes, virtual offices and made-up addresses. Hide your address only if you are a service-area business, because that is what Google’s help page allows. Also avoid describing your spot in relative terms, like “across from the park.”
Third-party guides say PO boxes and virtual addresses are not accepted, and that a home address works if you hide it. Google’s page we reviewed does not state the PO box rule, so treat it as a risk. Local SEO experts list PO boxes, virtual offices and showing an address as a service-area business among the common reasons profiles get suspended.

Does hiding your address hurt your ranking?
It can affect visibility, though it is not a direct ranking factor. Local Falcon cites a Sterling Sky test where rankings dropped after addresses were removed and recovered when they were shown again. One test is not a rule, so measure your own results after the change.
Track where you appear on Maps for your main searches, plus the calls and quote requests that come from your profile. If visibility drops, Local Falcon suggests defining precise service areas and considering a small public office inside the area. How can a website support a service-area profile?
Your profile points to your website, so it should name the same services and areas. Build one page per main service and honest pages for the areas you work in. Dizayn builds sites and handles local SEO, so a hidden address still has clear proof behind it.
